  9. KL-ZIP is a GUI interface for the shareware/public domain programs ZIP.EXE 
  10. and UNZIP.EXE for OS/2.  KL-ZIP will NOT work properly with PKZIP or 
  11. PKUNZIP!  This is a 'WORK IN PROGRESS'!!  I wanted to post this early beta
  12. so that I can begin to get feedback.  Currently KL-ZIP ONLY supports viewing
  13. ZIP files and extracting ZIP files. KL-ZIP is designed to fully exploit 
  14. OS/2's capabilities. KL-ZIP supports HPFS long file names. For readability 
  15. KL-ZIP substitutes a '|' character whenever a SPACE is encountered in a 
  16. HPFS filename. This may be changed in a future version. I currently plan on
  17. posting all new versions on OS/2 Shareware BBS at 703-385-4325. I call there
  18. about once a week. You may contact me via messages there. 
  19. As soon as I get some preliminary ZIP creation capabilities working I will 
  20. work on some docs and help files. Please be patient. The final version of 
  21. KL-ZIP is expected to be shareware and carry a $15-$25 registration fee.

  23. The final Shareware version will NOT support HPFS long files names or
  24. loading filenames via ASSOCIATIONS unless it is registered! Other 
  25. restrictions may also apply to unregistered copies! Registration enabled
  26. features will be pulled by the end of February 1994! If you like what you see
  27. during development you can get a pre-release registration special for only 
  28. $5.00!!

  44. beta does not do anything at present time.

  47. I am only promising a release 1.0, version 2.0 is very unsure.
  48. Version 2.0 will depend on my availability and how many
  49. people register 1.0. If there is a 2.0 it will take several
  50. months due to some scheduling conflicts.

  68.     - Full added support for LHARC maybe other OS/2 compression programs(maybe)
  69.     - Drag and drop file onto KL-ZIP and it will list contents
  70.     - Ability to keep KL-ZIP running and when clicking on a ZIP file
  71.       KL-ZIP will be aware of it and list it. This will reduce the
  72.       load time to 0 from what is now needed for KL-ZIP!

  77. - In create ZIP, file list has limitations that will cause files not to
  78.     show. This is an OS/2 limitation and under normal circumstances
  79.     you will never see it unless you have several thousand files in
  80.     a directory! This limitation will apply to any LIST BOX in this
  81.     and any other OS/2 program!!

  160.     want to erase it. Saying NO prvents the ZT## temp directory from being
  161.     deleted. This may be handy to see why a certain action may have failed!

  196. - Again I apologize for the long delays between betas. Due to unforseen
  197.     assignments at work and the delay of the next release of the program
  198.     that KL-ZIP is written in I expect the official 1.0 release to be delayed
  199.     until late February or early March. Betas from now until 1.0 will NOT
  200.     expire until 5/1/94. The current code appears to be VERY stable so
  201.     this should not be a problem. Betas should show up about every 2-3
  202.     weeks until 1.0 is released.
  203. - Started adding the ADD COMMENTS code, but it is NOT functioning yet.
  204. - Started making code changes in preparation for the next release of
  205.     the compiler which has differencet features and will behave
  206.     differently than current version.

  210. - Added a config option to allow a PERMANENT WORK directory. Saw the need
  211.     for this when I got my CD-ROM drive last month. Hard to make a temp dir
  212.     on the current drive if it's a CD!! YOU must create the full path and work
  213.     directory manually! If you select PERMANENT WORK DIR and KL-ZIP
  214.     does NOT find it, it will default to trying to create a temp dir on the
  215.     current drive. If you suse a permanent WORK DIR then you should NOT
  216.     run more than one copy of KL-ZIP at a time!!!
  217. - Started working on cleaning up the ERROR messages and making them
  218.     more informative. IF you get an error VERIFY all settings in KL-ZIP are
  219.     set correct and ZIP.EXE and UNZIP.EXE are in your path or have actual
  220.     drive/paths set in KL-ZIP!

  225. - Added command line loading of a file name. If you start KL-ZIP from command
  226.     prompt followed by a file name KL-ZIP will load that ZIP file 
  227.     automatically if it is found in current directory. If not found then
  228.     KL-ZIP will assume you want to create that ZIP and start in CREATE ZIP
  229.     mode. (THIS FEATURE WILL BE DISABLED IN FINAL SHAREWARE VERSION!)

  243.     registered!!!! If no major bugs are reported then I will release 1.0 in

  250.     HPFS names, loading file names via association, default file create
  251.     if name provided and other features are now DISABLED unless a VALID
  252.     registration is found!!!
  253. - Supports DRAG AND DROP activation. If you drag a ZIP file onto the KL-ZIP
  254.     icon it will start up KL-ZIP with that file loaded. (REGSITERED VERSION
  255.     ONLY!) Also if KL-ZIP is running you can drap a single ZIP file ICON
  256.     on to the back ground of the main KL-ZIP list window and that ZIP
  257.     file will be processed and display.(REGISTERED VERSION ONLY!)
  258. - Beta cycle is winding down. Unless a major bug is found this should
  259.     be the LAST BETA!! I am looking at releaseing 1.00 within 10-14 days.
  260.     Once 1.00 is released registration will be $20.00 This beta does NOT
  261.     EXPIRE since the registration checking is active!

  266. - Fixed bug where on NEW install it would just TERMINATE with no errors.
  267. - Fixed bug where if on selecting REGISTRATION it would never bring back
  268.     the CONFIG OPTIONS menu.
  269. - Added ability to drag and DROP several OS/2 TYPEs onto the final menu
  270.     when creating a ZIP and those files sill be added to the list of
  271.     files in the ZIP to be created. Currently this only supports several
  272.     OS/2 TYPES (Plain Text, Executable, etc.) I am working on a way for this
  273.     to dynamically support any TYPEs found on your system.
  274. - On schedule for a release of 1.00 in next 10 days! All registrations postmarked
  275.     after 1/31/94 will require the full registration price of $20.00

  280. - Added a Drag & Drop menu to the CREATE ZIP window. This allows you to select
  281.     the ASSOCIATIONS that will be valid to drag ICONS onto the CREATE
  282.     background to be added to the ZIP. Use with caution! Not all ASSOCIATIONS
  283.     are valid to be added to a ZIP!
  284. - Fixed some minor bugs and have the KL-ZIP ICON imbedded in the .EXE finally!
  285. - Added Code to tell if a major version change has occured and will warn of
  286.     need for a configuration update.
